Wasp, Hornet, and Yellow Jacket Control in Dothan, AL | Pest-Ex

A nest near a doorway, eave, play area, or work space can keep people from using the property. Pest-Ex helps customers in Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark, Eufaula, Troy, Ashford, Headland, Abbeville, and Webb identify wasp, hornet, and yellow jacket activity. Locally owned since 1956, our team looks for where insects are flying and where the nest may be, then explains the safest next step.

Signs you have wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets

Do not approach or disturb a suspected nest. From a safe distance, note signs such as:

  • Repeated wasp or hornet traffic entering one opening beneath an eave or roof edge.
  • A papery nest attached to a sheltered structure, branch, or outdoor fixture.
  • Yellow jackets entering a gap near the ground, wall, or landscape feature.
  • Insects gathering around sweet drinks, ripe fruit, trash, or outdoor food.
  • Stinging activity near a walkway, entrance, patio, or frequently used yard area.

Why wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets are a problem in southeast Alabama

Wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets are active outdoors during the warmer months in southeast Alabama. Activity commonly builds in spring and continues through fall, with colonies and nests changing as the season progresses. Warm weather lets people spend more time outside at the same time that stinging insects are foraging around food and sheltered nesting places.

A nest may be easy to see under an eave or hidden in a wall, shrub, or ground opening. The type of insect and nest location matter: a visible paper nest and a ground-level yellow jacket entrance require different inspection considerations. People with known sting allergies or heavy foot traffic near a nest should treat the situation cautiously and avoid trying to identify it up close.

On commercial properties, a nest near a customer entrance, loading area, or outdoor seating can affect access and daily activity. In a home, insects near a door, deck, or yard path can make routine tasks uncomfortable. A professional assessment helps establish the nest location and plan a response that accounts for who uses the surrounding area.

How Pest-Ex treats wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets

Pest-Ex inspects from a safe position, asks where insects are flying, and looks for the nest. Your technician identifies the insect and location, explains the service, and reviews access needs and precautions.

We choose treatment for the nest, structure, and agreed service plan. Keep people and pets away until your technician says the area is safe. For a nest inside a wall or another hard-to-reach place, we may need to inspect further or coordinate access with the property owner.

Ask about recurring plans for seasonal checks around common nesting areas. New nests can form as colonies and conditions change. If activity continues or another nest appears, call Pest-Ex instead of approaching or sealing an active entrance.

What you can do between visits

Until the area has been assessed, use these precautions and reduce conditions that attract foraging insects:

  • Keep people and pets away from the nest and avoid shaking branches or closing an active entrance.
  • Do not spray, burn, hit, or seal a nest or ground opening yourself.
  • Keep sweet drinks, food scraps, and garbage covered when eating outdoors.
  • Observe the insects from a safe distance and note where they enter the structure.
  • Tell Pest-Ex about nearby doors, walkways, children, pets, or sting-allergy concerns before service.

Frequently asked questions

Should I remove a wasp nest myself?

No. Disturbing a nest can provoke stings, and ground or wall nests may be hard to locate. Keep clear and contact a professional to assess the site.

Are yellow jackets the same as wasps?

Yellow jackets are a type of wasp. Their nesting habits and location can differ from other wasps and hornets, so identification helps determine a safe plan.

When are wasps most active in southeast Alabama?

Activity is often most noticeable from spring through fall. Warm temperatures and outdoor food can attract foraging insects during much of that period.

What if the nest is inside a wall?

Do not seal the opening or spray into it. Tell Pest-Ex where insects are entering so a technician can assess access, activity, and the appropriate next step.

Can Pest-Ex help businesses with stinging insects?

Yes. Pest-Ex serves Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark, Eufaula, Troy, Ashford, Headland, Abbeville, Webb, and nearby Wiregrass communities. Tell us about nests near entrances, outdoor seating, or work areas so the technician can assess the site and explain next steps.

Called a pest control company and they never responded. Called Pest-Ex and they sent a tech out the very next day. Steve was very professional and a joy to talk with. He sprayed the perimeter of the house and I started to see the effects immediately. He didn't try to upsell any services that I didn't need. Pest-Ex earned my trust! Their rates are fair and reasonable if not better than the national chains. With that being said, we signed up for the quarterly treatment option. I don't normally give 5 stars, but Pest-Ex really impressed me!!! Thank you Pest-Ex!
