German Cockroach Control in Dothan, AL | Pest-Ex

German cockroaches are small, fast-moving roaches that hide near food, water, warmth, and tight indoor spaces. Pest-Ex inspects and treats homes and businesses in Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark, Eufaula, Troy, Ashford, Headland, Abbeville, and Webb. We ask where you have seen roaches and check kitchens, bathrooms, and other warm areas. Since 1956, our Dothan team has helped Wiregrass neighbors get practical help with pest problems.

Signs you have German cockroaches

German roaches often hide during daylight, so repeated small clues can be important. Look for:

  • Small tan or light-brown roaches, often with two darker stripes behind the head.
  • Roaches appearing around kitchen appliances, cabinet hinges, or plumbing gaps.
  • Dark specks or smears near hiding areas, shelves, drawers, or wall edges.
  • Egg cases or shed skins in protected cracks and crevices.
  • Activity that continues after routine cleaning or appears in more than one room.

Why German cockroaches are a problem in southeast Alabama

Unlike many outdoor pests, German cockroaches can remain active indoors through every season. Warm kitchens, moisture around sinks, food residue, and tight hiding spaces allow activity to continue even when outside temperatures change. In southeast Alabama, air conditioning and heated interiors can keep indoor conditions comfortable for roaches throughout the year, so winter does not necessarily end an infestation.

German roaches hitchhike in bags, boxes, used appliances, and other belongings. They can also move through shared walls, plumbing routes, or common spaces in multi-unit housing. Even a clean kitchen can have roaches. They hide near food and water, so checking beyond the room where you spotted one helps locate the activity.

American cockroaches—sometimes called palmetto bugs in the region—are larger and are more often associated with exterior areas, drains, or sheltered outdoor spaces before entering a building. They are not the same pest as German cockroaches, and control can differ. A technician’s identification helps avoid applying the wrong approach to the wrong species.

How Pest-Ex treats German cockroaches

We ask about recent sightings, adjoining units, and nearby food or water. Then we inspect likely hiding places and travel routes so treatment addresses where the roaches live.

Your technician explains the treatment and preparation for cabinets, counters, appliances, or shared spaces. Share new sightings after service so we can review the activity and plan follow-up. Heavy or widespread activity often calls for coordinated preparation and repeat visits.

Ask about recurring pest-control plans for ongoing monitoring, especially in restaurants, multi-unit buildings, or homes with repeat activity. In a rental or shared building, the owner or manager can help coordinate access and preparation across affected areas.

What you can do between visits

Between visits, simple changes can make kitchens easier to inspect and less attractive to roaches:

  • Store food in closed containers and clean crumbs or grease from counters and appliance edges.
  • Repair or report leaks and dry standing water around sinks and refrigerator pans.
  • Reduce cardboard clutter and inspect grocery bags, deliveries, and used appliances.
  • Avoid moving items from an affected room to another unit or clean room without checking them.
  • Keep a note of where and when roaches appear so your technician can focus the inspection.

Frequently asked questions

Are German cockroaches the same as palmetto bugs?

No. German cockroaches are smaller and commonly live indoors near food and warmth. Palmetto bug usually refers locally to larger American cockroaches, which can enter from exterior areas.

Can German roaches live in a clean home?

Yes. They hitchhike in bags, boxes, appliances, and other belongings, and can move between units. Sealed food and clean surfaces limit access to food and water.

Why do I still see roaches after service?

Roaches hide in tight spaces and can show up as the service plan progresses. Note new sightings and follow preparation instructions so your technician can advise on follow-up.

Should I use bug bombs for German roaches?

Avoid using foggers without professional advice. They can scatter roaches into other hiding places and may create exposure concerns. Follow product labels and ask a technician about a targeted plan.

Does Pest-Ex treat rental properties and businesses?

Yes. Pest-Ex serves Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark, Eufaula, Troy, Ashford, Headland, Abbeville, and Webb, including rental homes and shared buildings. Owners or managers can coordinate access and preparation when multiple rooms or units are involved.

Called a pest control company and they never responded. Called Pest-Ex and they sent a tech out the very next day. Steve was very professional and a joy to talk with. He sprayed the perimeter of the house and I started to see the effects immediately. He didn't try to upsell any services that I didn't need. Pest-Ex earned my trust! Their rates are fair and reasonable if not better than the national chains. With that being said, we signed up for the quarterly treatment option. I don't normally give 5 stars, but Pest-Ex really impressed me!!! Thank you Pest-Ex!
